Kanu- und Segel-Gilde Hildesheim e.V.
Kanu- und Segel-Gilde Hildesheim e.V. is a family-friendly boat and watersports club with about 260 members. The clubhouse stands on Lönsbruch directly on the banks of the Innerste, the main training stretch in Hildesheim; a second site is in Mardorf on Lake Steinhuder Meer on the grounds of the Lower Saxony state canoe association, with a rentable wooden house and boats. The programme includes canoe slalom, whitewater, touring paddling and SUP as well as sailing with dinghies, catamarans, Schwertzugvogel and the 420, plus surfing and the shanty choir Die Graureiher. Training and taster sailing prepare for inland and sea pleasure craft licences; youth and juniors train regularly and compete in national and international events.
History
Kanu- und Segel-Gilde Hildesheim e.V. (KSGH) combines canoeing and sailing under one roof and uses the clubhouse on Lönsbruch by the Innerste as well as the site in Mardorf on Lake Steinhuder Meer. In the 2022 season KSG Hildesheim finished first in the district by points in the electronic logbook and hosted the German pupils’ championships in canoe slalom, winning two individual silver medals. In 2024 KSGH again hosted the German pupils’ championships on the Innerste and had previously been honoured for the best junior canoe-slalom work in Germany; with two titles and eight further medals it was the club’s most successful German championships to date. In 2025 three young athletes took part for the first time in national-team selection races in Augsburg and Markkleeberg; further podiums and medals followed at the Schwerter Ruhrslalom and the international ECA Cup in Augsburg. Alongside this, sailing with training, dinghies, catamarans and the Steinhuder Meer sailing area remains a core part of club life.
