Karlstads Kappseglingsförening

Karlstads Kappseglingsförening (KKF) is a traditional sailing club in Karlstad on Lake Vänern and one of the city's oldest sports associations. Founded in 1905, the club offers training, coaching and competitions for children, young people and adults. The main base is at Kanikenäset with a clubhouse; there is also the out-harbour Torsholmen east of Rävön. Sailing focuses on Optimist, Europe, ILCA and Finn-Dinghy as well as club C55 boats. The programme includes sailing school, youth training (including Blå träning) and adult sailing for beginners and intermediates. The club meets Svenska Seglarförbundet criteria for a youth-friendly club and emphasises safe, accessible dinghy sailing.

History

Karlstads Kappseglingsförening was founded in 1905 and is Karlstad's third-oldest sports club. In the early years members used sailing canoes and paddle canoes. In the 1930s the club split: paddlers formed Karlstads Paddlarklubb, leaving the sailing members in Karlstads kanotförening. In the 1980s the name was adjusted to highlight dinghy sailing and avoid confusion. Today the club is called Karlstads Kappseglingsförening, keeping the well-known abbreviation KKF. Main classes used are Optimist, Europe, Laser/ILCA, Finn and C55. The club runs extensive youth activities and meets Svenska Seglarförbundet youth-friendly club criteria. For the centenary in 2005 the jubilee book "100 år på Vänervåg" was published. The mission is to make dinghy sailing accessible and safe through good coaches, equipment and organisation.
