Kolding Sejlklub

Kolding Sejlklub is a traditional Danish sailing club on Kolding Fjord and a member of Dansk Sejlunion and Dansk Idrætsforbund. The club maintains facilities at Kolding Lystbådhavn Nord, including a clubhouse and dinghy house at Dokvej 1, and operates a crane at the northern harbour. The programme ranges from youth sailing in the Optimist class and parasport in 2.4mR keelboats to adult courses at the sailing school, Wednesday racing and cruising with buoys and bridges in the Little Belt. Since its founding in 1881, the club has grown from a small membership to more than 600 members and is firmly rooted in the regional sailing community through racing successes and activities such as Pigesejlads and Sejl og Studér.

History

Kolding Sejlklub was founded in 1881 and is one of Denmark’s long-established sailing clubs. From the outset, the club made the name of the city of Kolding known through numerous racing victories and innovative initiatives, including floating boat exhibitions with Søsportens Brancheforening. The club is a member of Dansk Sejlunion and Dansk Idrætsforbund and is situated on the sheltered Kolding Fjord with access to the Belt Sea and open waters. Its aims include promoting Danish sailing, establishing bridges and buoys in Kolding Fjord and the Little Belt, organising regattas and distance races, and supporting youth work through Kolding Sejlklub Ungdom. The club also runs courses in practical and theoretical seamanship and navigation, maintains training boats and looks after facilities at Kolding Lystbådhavn Nord. In 2023 the club opened its 142nd sailing season since foundation with the flag-raising ceremony at the dinghy house flagstaff on Dokvej 1. Today the club has more than 600 members, publishes the club magazine “Bøjen” two to three times a year, and is active in parasport sailing, youth development and the Sejl og Studér project for young adults.
