Stowarzyszenie Jacht Klub Kotwica Tarnobrzeg

Stowarzyszenie Jacht Klub Kotwica Tarnobrzeg (SJKKT) is the oldest sailing club in Tarnobrzeg and is based at ul. Żeglarska 2 on Jezioro Tarnobrzeskie (formerly Zalew Machowski). The club runs its own marina with quay berths, sanitary facilities and water/sewage services, using the clear, windy lake for training and racing. The programme includes youth development with Optimist day camps for children aged 6 to 12, regular regatta participation and sport in the Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes. Founded in 1961 and revived in 2002 under the traditional Kotwica name, the club links Tarnobrzeg sailing heritage with today’s junior and racing activity.

History

Kotwica is the oldest sailing club in Tarnobrzeg, founded in 1961. Its first name was Klub Wodny Ligi Przyjaciół Żołnierza „Kotwica“, later KW LOK „Kotwica“. Activity began in 1961 with the first sailing course at the Vistula marina in Tarnobrzeg. Strong local interest and support from KiZPS „Siarkopol“ enabled equipment purchases and a proper marina. The club ran annual sailing courses and invested in members’ development. In 1964 it organised the first course for coastal yacht skipper; sea time was gained on legendary yachts such as s/y Generał Zaruski and s/y Jurand. In 1965 the first cabin yacht „Kabała 2“ was built. Kotwica also expanded inland sailing with Masurian cruises and regattas; a tug bought in Płock enabled the popular „O błękitną wstęgę Wisły“ event on the Tarnobrzeg–Puławy route. Creative work continued until the late 1970s. Members joined the sailing section of KS „Siarka“, from which Jacht Klub „Siarkopol“ and later Klub Instruktorów Żeglarstwa (until 1999) emerged. In early 2002 veterans and young sailors returned to their roots and re-founded Jacht Klub „Kotwica“ Tarnobrzeg. Activity has since been linked with Zalew Machów / Jezioro Tarnobrzeskie, and Kotwica again organised a sailing camp.
