Københavns Motor Yachtklub (KMY)
Københavns Motor Yachtklub (KMY) is the official motor yacht club based at the new pleasure craft marina in Kastrup near Copenhagen and is affiliated with SAMKAS. The club brings together people interested in the sea and motor boating, helps members improve their skills, and fosters camaraderie on the water and in harbour. Club life centres on the clubhouse, where members meet year-round; during the season there are joint trips to other harbours, Whitsun and summer tours, and the reliability race. Around 156 members are organised as active, family, supporting and pensioner members; the humorously named youth section starts at about forty years of age. History and community have shaped the club since the shared clubhouse build with Kastrup Sejlklub and sole use of the house from 2009.
History
Københavns Motor Yachtklub (KMY) in Kastrup originally aimed to promote motor boating and today is a meeting place for everyone interested in the sea and motor boat sailing. The clubhouse was built in 1981/1982 jointly by members of KMY and Kastrup Sejlklub. In 2009 KMY gained exclusive use of the clubhouse after Kastrup Sejlklub built its own clubhouse in 2008/2009 between the KMY house and the mast sheds; a new extension was also added to the mast sheds in 2009. The club is affiliated with SAMKAS and organises seasonal harbour trips, Whitsun and summer tours, and the reliability race. The annual general meeting is held in March; only active members have voting rights, while all others have speaking rights. Today the club has about 156 members in active, family, supporting and pensioner categories and maintains a strong community in the clubhouse and on board.
