Fakse Ladeplads Sejlklub

Fakse Ladeplads Sejlklub is an active sailing club on Faxe Bay in Fakse Ladeplads on Zealand. The club is based at the marina with a clubhouse, mast shed, material shed and workshop as well as a dinghy slipway. Members can borrow club boats, Optimist, Laser and other dinghies and take part in Wednesday racing and Tour Thursday club days. Young sailors receive tuition in dinghy, keelboat and sailing theory; a mentor scheme supports newcomers. Since its founding in 1970, joint cruises, the Whitsun trip and the traditional Fakse Bugten rund race have shaped club life.

History

Fakse Ladeplads Sejlklub was founded on 19 November 1970 according to the club protocol. After two introductory meetings, the founding general assembly with 28 sailing enthusiasts was held at Café Hjortholm, Strandvejen 80 in Fakse Ladeplads. Boe Hansen was elected as the club's first chairman; the first board comprised Sven Hansen, Willy Caspersen, Lars Andersen, Henning Petersen and Fritz Wichmann, with deputies Kaj Drent and Erik Jørgensen. Membership was set at 100 kroner per year. A marina was still missing; a financing proposal for about 60 berths and 40 dinghy places at an estimated 400,000 kroner was adopted on 9 December 1970, but later realised under different conditions. On 19 December 1983 a draft for founding Fakse Ladeplads Fiskeri og Lystbådehavn a.m.b.a. was discussed with the Strandjagtforeningen; in 1984/85 the harbour as known today was built. In 1985 Mayor Jens Berendt inaugurated the new marina with 120 berths in six sizes. In August 1989 the new clubhouse on the harbour was opened. In 2007 a mast shed was built, and in 2014 a 30-square-metre material shed for youth sails, boats and equipment – created through members' voluntary work. At the 2014 general assembly Jørn Engelbrecht became the club's first honorary member for long-standing commitment. Over the years members organised flag-raising dinners, Easter and New Year gatherings, Christmas events, joint sailing trips, family harbour days, youth races in Optimist and Zoom, and Danish championships in Laser and OK dinghies in Faxe Bay. The annual Fakse Bugten rund race and the weekly Wednesday races remain part of the programme for both young and older members.
