Farum Sejlklub
Farum Sejlklub is the official sailing club on scenic Lake Furesø near Værløse in the Capital Region of Denmark and offers sailing for juniors and adults. The club provides harbour and shore berths, a sail hall, a harbour crane and a large club fleet including nine Yngling keelboats and about 40 dinghies. Members can learn to sail in the senior sailing school or youth section, borrow club boats and take part in Thursday evening racing as well as club and Furesø championships. Founded on 7 November 1963, the club today combines Optimist, ILCA and 29er youth training with strong senior fleets in Yngling and privately owned StorTriss and Wayfarer boats.
History
Farum Sejlklub grew from a conversation in July 1963 between Paul Hansen and furniture dealer Lauritz Andersen outside Farum Møbellager on Farum Hovedgade. With support from Optimist pioneer P.G. Hansen and local teachers, information evenings and dinghy-building courses followed. The founding general meeting on 7 November 1963 was chaired by Christian Friis-Hansen of Yachtklubben Furesøen; interim board: chair Paul Hansen, vice-chair Wilhelm Grentzmann, treasurer Johnny Tikotzki, secretary Mogens Lagstrøm and Helge K. Jensen. Starting membership: 12 seniors and 10 juniors, with plans for six Optimists and five BB dinghies. In winter 1963/64 the group built boats in Lauritz Andersen's cellar; Jørgen Andersen became evening-school instructor. The first Optimist left the mould before Christmas; the club burgee (white field, blue border, two stylised red sails on blue waves) was designed by Wilhelm Grentzmann. After failed talks about Farum Sø, from 1 May 1964 the club gained a three-month trial permit for Optimists at the eastern end of Farum Sø. With help from Roklubben Furesø a base was established at Furesøbad; the first flag-raising was on 5 June 1964. Today the club sits on Lake Furesø (Frederiksborgvej 101A, Værløse), runs youth and senior sections, a Yngling sailing school, Thursday racing with neighbouring clubs, and is among Denmark's strong Wayfarer and StorTriss venues; in 2025 two new Feva dinghies joined the youth fleet. Active youth section (FAS Ungdom) for roughly ages 9–10 to 25 with intro courses, training in Optimist, Tera, Zoom8, Feva and 29er, parent support, bridge watch, summer sailing camp at Herslev Strand and club championship; coaches with Danish Sailing Association training.
