Essener Yacht-Club e.V.

Founded in 1955, Essener Yacht-Club e.V. is located on the southern shore of Lake Baldeney in Essen and shares its harbour with the EVAG White Fleet. The club has a clubhouse that serves as a meeting place for regattas, training sessions and social gatherings after sailing. The club organises the annual Mailüftchen Regatta and, since its 50th anniversary, co-hosts the Klassiker-Rendezvous Rheinland for classic wooden yachts. Regular training regattas with yardstick scoring are held for Folkeboat, H-Boot and Dragon classes, which are started separately and scored in an additional dedicated ranking. Since 1957, the EYC has repeatedly hosted the Essen Sailing Week on Lake Baldeney, most recently in 2006. The club website provides information on its history, sailing training dates and a live webcam of the sailing area.

History

Essener Yacht-Club e.V. was founded in 1955 and is based on the southern shore of Lake Baldeney in Essen. The club shares its harbour with the EVAG White Fleet and is one of the established sailing clubs on Lake Baldeney. In 1957, the EYC was the first organiser of the Essen Sailing Week, a major event on Lake Baldeney; further editions followed, most recently in 2006. The club organises the annual Mailüftchen Regatta. Since the 50th anniversary in 2005, Essener Yacht-Club has co-hosted the Klassiker-Rendezvous Rheinland each year together with the Friends of Classic Yachts, a regatta for classic wooden yachts. Regular training regattas have also become a tradition on the lake and complement the club's regatta calendar. The club has a clubhouse where members discuss recent regattas, club life and more in a convivial atmosphere. Lake Baldeney was created between July 1931 and March 1933 by a weir in Essen-Werden and is now a popular recreational destination in the Ruhr region.
