ESS Jolle
ESS Jolle is a dinghy sailing club at Segeludden on Edsviken in Sollentuna, offering progressive and enjoyable dinghy sailing for all ages and levels. The club has its own clubhouse at Strandvägen 18, a fenced boat storage area and its own jetty. Boats sailed include RS Quest and ILCA; the programme covers evening training in spring and autumn, racing, summer camps and sailing courses. Youth play a central role: young members lead activities, are trained as instructors and ensure high staffing ratios at camps and courses. Since becoming independent in 2014 from the former dinghy section, ESS Jolle is one of the larger boat clubs in Sollentuna with around 250 members.
History
The dinghy section of Edvikens Segelsällskap was founded in 1969 and has operated from the start at Segeludden on Edsviken in Sollentuna. In 2014 the annual meeting decided to leave the parent club and form a separate association named Edvikens Seglarskola Jolle, abbreviated ESS Jolle. With around 250 members, the club is among the larger boat clubs in Sollentuna. At Strandvägen 18, ESS Jolle today has its own clubhouse, a fenced area for storing club boats and its own pier. Activity runs year-round with spring and autumn training, racing and a summer sailing school for children and young people. In winter, instructors meet for training, and every Wednesday members gather in the clubhouse for boat maintenance and fika. ESS Jolle is not only a sailing school but a sports club where young people lead all activities. A key focus is training young people as instructors and leaders; a typical summer camp with 25 participants has 12 leaders, allowing an instructor in each boat and at least two safety boats. Adults support the young people in working groups with board work, training planning, boat repairs and house work.
