Espoon Pursiseura EPS ry

Espoon Pursiseura EPS ry is a modern Finnish sailing club in Nuottaniemi, Espoo, with a deep, sheltered and well-equipped harbour on the Gulf of Finland. The club offers a clubhouse from 1992, an activity centre for dinghy sailing, the restaurant villa Villa Pentry, and the Bergholmen island base near Kirkkonummi acquired in 2025. Facilities include berths, children's sailing courses, Optimist and ILCA training, and regattas from ranking events to national championships. Juniors and adults train in several groups; the youth programme has taken sailors from children's school to world championship and Olympic level. Since its founding around 1967, harbour operations, cruising and community life have shaped the club programme.

History

Espoon Pursiseura EPS ry was founded around 1967, as shown by the 30-year chronicle published in 1997 and the club history issued for the 50th anniversary in 2017. For a long time the Karelian Isthmus timber villa Villa Pentry served as the clubhouse, until the present clubhouse was completed in 1992 for the 470 youth world championships hosted by EPS. The clubhouse at the harbour entrance includes a watchtower, kitchen, sanitary and sauna facilities and the club office. The dinghy activity centre was built in 2009 and is the base for the children's sailing school and many dinghy regattas; in 2019 EPS hosted the Lightning World Championship among other events. Youth work begins at the children's sailing school and has guided several sailors to world championship and Olympic level. Since 2020 the club has replaced the former EPSBlaad magazine with bilingual member newsletters; from 2024 regular monthly info mails are sent. In February 2025 EPS acquired the outing island Bergholmen near Kirkkonummi with two piers and a sauna cabin. Today the club combines harbour and training services, junior work, adult dinghy sailing and offshore racing in Nuottaniemi and on the Gulf of Finland.
