Egersund Seilforening
Egersund Seilforening is an active sailing club in Egersund on Norway's southwest coast, founded in 1999, based at the Nysundhalsen sailing sports centre below the Eigerøy bridge. The club has about 200 paying members and modern facilities including a clubhouse with two changing rooms, dinghy garage, workshop, two meeting rooms and upstairs club rooms, plus berths. Free dinghy training on Thursdays in the summer season and organised Wednesday keelboat sailing from May to September define the programme; the fleet includes Optimists, Lasers and a Learling among other craft. The aim is sailing without buying a boat for juniors and adults; the club also runs Egersund guest harbour for the municipality and completed the Nysundhalsen centre in two construction stages.
History
Egersund Seilforening was founded in 1999. Soon after founding, the search for a suitable location began; early on a pier was built by volunteer labour at Grønehaugen on Eigerøy. When that site was taken over by business, the club moved the pier to the inner harbour; it is now part of Egersund guest harbour, which the club runs for Egersund municipality. Club rooms were then rented premises on Storgaten in the centre, which limited further development. A committee contacted Ebba Jakobsen, owner of the land leased today. With her support and countless volunteer hours, the sailing facility at Nysundhalsen was completed in two construction stages. Many regard the facility as one of Norway's finest sailing centres; the club is very proud of it. Today Nysundhalsen serves both active sailors and those seeking recreation, with free dinghy training, berths and operation of the guest harbour.
