Dresdner Segelclub 1910 e.V.

Dresdner Segelclub 1910 e.V. is Saxony's oldest sailing club and is located on the Elbe riverbank in Dresden-Tolkewitz. Members use a jetty as well as lockable boat halls for winter berths; both motorboats and sailboats are equally welcome. Club life includes joint outings, social gatherings in the historic mess hall and regular compulsory work parties for jetty assembly and dismantling. Families with children may use the club's children's and youth boats once they hold a sailing certificate and receive support from experienced members. Founded on 1 August 1910, the club continues to shape sailing on the Upper Elbe and undertakes trips to lakes and coastal waters.

History

Sailing enthusiasts from Dresden founded the Dresdner Segelclub on 1 August 1910. The first jetty was on the left bank of the Elbe near the Saloppe. From 1914 the jetty and clubhouse were in Dresden-Loschwitz above the Blue Wonder bridge; sailing then focused mainly on shallow-draft keelboats. In the early 1920s the jetty was moved to its present site in Dresden-Tolkewitz, and the boat halls followed a little later. From the early 1930s the number of sail and motor boats rose rapidly. Until the mid-1960s the club organised motorboat races on the Upper Elbe. Members made cruises on the Baltic Sea, in the Mediterranean, off Holland and across the Atlantic. Today they again appreciate more the scenic charm of the Elbe as well as the Mecklenburg and Lusatian lakes, the Baltic Sea and Czechia. The club is registered as Dresdner Segelclub 1910 e.V. at the Dresden district court under VR 354 and is regarded as Saxony's oldest sailing club.
