Dahme Jacht Club e. V.

Dahme Jacht Club e. V. is a traditional sailing club on Lake Seddinsee in Berlin-Schmöckwitz and one of Berlin's oldest sailing clubs. On the club-owned woodland plot at Schwarzer Weg 2 there are a clubhouse with hall and canteen, a boat shed, a youth house, overnight accommodation and a large pier with shore berths for about 60 boats and 20 youth boats. The sailing area extends across Seddinsee and Langer See towards Grünau and Köpenick; active classes include Optimist, O-Jolle and Yngling. The programme features Saturday youth training, ranking regattas such as the Sonderwettfahrt and the Kehrausregatta Opti B, plus cruising. Founded in 1897 as Berliner Jollenclub and renamed in 1921, the club today has around 125 members and shapes sailing life in south-east Berlin.

History

Dahme Jacht Club was founded on 25 September 1897 as Berliner Jollenclub. Its cradle was Lake Rummelsburger See, then the water-sports and recreation centre of eastern Berlin. The statutes stated that the club aimed to foster sailing and sociability – a claim that still holds today. In 1921 it was renamed Dahme Jacht Club and thus ranks among Berlin's oldest sailing clubs. For the centenary, Dr Jörg Lietzmann and Dieter Leukert compiled a chronicle from 1897 to 1997 documenting developments in Berlin sailing; Detlef Francke transferred this memoir for members in 2008. The chronicle covers 1897–1919, 1920–1933, 1933–1945, 1945–1989 and 1989–1997. Today the club sits on a recently purchased woodland plot on Seddinsee in Berlin-Schmöckwitz and maintains regatta, youth and cruising sailing with about 125 members.
