Danderyds Sjöscoutkår

Danderyds Sjöscoutkår is a Swedish sea scout group in Danderyd near Stockholm with land and water activities for children and young people. The group uses the scout hut Oskarsborg at Enebybergsvägen 1 and sails from its own jetty at the end of Soltorpsvägen on Edsviken. The fleet includes Optimists and RS Quest boats as well as Swedish Tvåkronor dinghies, plus safety motorboats. The programme ranges from family scouting for young children through tracker, explorer and adventure scouts to challengers, with regular training, overnight hikes and the summer camp on Örsö. Since its founding in 1939 as a girls’ scout troop and its affiliation with Roslagens Scout District and the Swedish Guide and Scout Association, sea scouting with sailing has been central to the group’s work.

History

Danderyds Sjöscoutkår was founded in 1939 as a girls’ scout troop and today runs joint activities for girls and boys. The group belongs to Roslagens Scout District and the Swedish Guide and Scout Association. The troop first visited the island of Örsö in the Stockholm archipelago in 1975, which has since been the preferred summer camp area. Scout hut Oskarsborg sits on the edge of Rinkeby forest in Danderyd; the boats lie at the jetty at the end of Soltorpsvägen on Edsviken when ice-free. When the Tvåkronor dinghies became increasingly repair-prone, the troop bought one RS Quest in 2019 after a market survey and two more in 2021 for training. Vrakpatrullen handles maintenance, launching and winter storage of the fleet. Besides sailing, the group offers courses for förarintyg, coastal skipper exam and VHF certificate.
