Dalarö Båtklubb

Dalarö Båtklubb is a non-profit boat and sailing club in Dalarö in the Stockholm archipelago and expressly sees itself as a members' association, not a commercial marina. The club operates more than 500 berths across 15 piers in Askfatshamnen, Kanalen and Vadviken, including a clubhouse, guest harbour and sailing-school docks. Members carry out watch and work duties, jointly organised launching and winter storage, and the running of the facilities. DBK Segling offers training and racing as well as children's and youth sailing; membership is required for a berth and sailing activities. Founded in 1947, a long tradition, a waiting list for new berths and an active club community shape club life.

Dalarö, Schweden

History

Dalarö Båtklubb was founded in 1947 by five boat- and sea-loving enthusiasts, including Dalarö's then cantor Vinfelt Johansson and customs supervisor Folke Vesterberg. In the founding year Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy (known in Sweden as Helan och Halvan) visited Sweden; a photograph by Gunnar Södergren from the same year documents the historical context. The club grew into a member-run boat club with berths in Askfatshamnen, Kanalen and Vadviken. The 50th anniversary was celebrated in 1997, the 70th in 2017 and the 75th in 2022. Club activities include safety and environment days, shared launching work, environmental measures such as remediation of TBT-contaminated boats, as well as talks and courses. Today the roughly 500 berths are used at nearly 100 percent capacity, which is why there is a waiting list for new members and berths.
