Gyldendal Bådlaug
Gyldendal Bådlaug is an active Danish sailing club based at Gyldendal Harbour on the western Limfjord at Venø Bugt near Spøttrup. The club creates a shared setting for children and adults with dinghy sailing, racing, tuition and social club life around harbour and clubhouse. The clubhouse offers a kitchen, common room with views of harbour and bay, a cosy lounge, terraces, barbecue areas, showers and toilets including an accessible WC; in summer it is open around the clock for members, visiting sailors and camper guests. The youth section sails Optimist and 606 among other boats and helps keep interest after the Optimist years with keelboats. Since the first self-moulded Optimists in 1987/88 and the clubhouse extension from 2010 to 2013 with an Optimist room and changing facilities, youth development has shaped the club.
History
Gyldendal Bådlaug is closely linked to Gyldendal Harbour, inaugurated in 1986 and celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011. In winter 1987/88 the first two Optimist dinghies were sponsored; volunteers helped mould the hulls. The first attempt failed because the hull would not release from the mould, but further work produced two particularly heavy and stable Optimists that launched the youth section. In following years more Optimists arrived with local sponsors. In the 2000s the youth section grew strongly; Inger Larsen shaped training and funding applications for many years. The fleet expanded to nine Optimists, three Zoom dinghies and two used 606 keelboats so juniors could keep sailing after Optimist. At the 2010 general meeting the club decided to plan another clubhouse extension; after grants and construction until June 2013 a large common room for visiting sailors and campers plus an Optimist room with changing rooms and showers for girls and boys were completed. Today the club is a hub for boat and dinghy owners with active youth work, dinghy and race sailing and social life on the western Limfjord.
