Gefle Segel Sällskap
Gefle Segel Sällskap is a traditional sailing club in Gävle and one of the oldest sailing clubs in Sweden. Founded in 1880, the club is based at Huseliiharen on Yttre Fjärden northeast of Gävle and offers a clubhouse, restaurant and around 150 berths. In addition to active racing, GSS runs sailing schools for children, youth and adults as well as social events. The junior section trains at the club grounds and takes part in competitions up to world championship level. With about 600 members and more than 200 registered boats, the club is a firm meeting point for sailors of all kinds.
History
Gefle Segel Sällskap was founded in 1880 and is, after Kungliga Segelsällskapet, one of the oldest sailing clubs in Sweden. Over the decades the club has organised many major regattas, including Swedish championships and world championships. Racing remains a focus today, complemented by sailing schools for children, youth and adults and by social events. At the clubhouse at Huseliiharen, competitions in the 2.4mR class have been held; GSS sailor Lennart Heselius became world champion in that class in 2007. Championships such as the 606 SM have also been sailed on Yttre Fjärden outside the clubhouse. The junior section organised events including the Tera World Championship 2023 and Tera SM 2022. Today GSS has about 600 members and more than 200 registered boats; the harbour at Huseliiharen has around 150 berths and serves as both guest and club marina with clubhouse and restaurant.
