GKSS
GKSS is a historic sailing club in Långedrag on the southern outlet of the Göta River near Gothenburg and ranks among Sweden's leading sailing clubs. The club marina sits in a lively, scenic setting with berths, a guest marina, land sites and winter berths as well as an on-site sailing school. Core activities are racing, training and education with a strong youth focus, plus programmes for adult sailors who want to develop further. Founded in 1860 and with around 3,100 members, the club is one of Sweden's largest sports associations; the GKSS Los Angeles Club also supports Olympic-committed sailors heading towards Los Angeles 2028.
History
GKSS was founded in 1860 and is today one of Sweden's largest sports associations and the leading club in sailing. The foundation of its activities is competitive sailing, training and education focused on youth, while also catering to adult sailors. The club marina is located in Långedrag on the southern shore of the Göta River outlet and serves as a vibrant hub with a guest marina and further harbour facilities. Since 1990 the Olympic programme has been supported by sponsor clubs ahead of each summer Olympics; the GKSS Olympic Club has become a recognised concept in Swedish elite sailing. The current focus is supporting GKSS sailors committed to the Olympics with Los Angeles 2028 as the target.
