Gimonäs Båtklubb
Gimonäs Båtklubb is the centrally located boat club of Umeå on the Umeälven river just downstream of Kolbäcksbron. The grounds include a new clubhouse, a guard house and a harbour basin with nine jetties, plus a renovated sauna with deck on the southern pier, a fuel station, a sewage pump-out station and a slipway. Ashore there are around 410 boat storage spaces, boat-house areas and a wash pad; about 200 berths, mostly with Y-booms, complete the facilities. Membership, guard duty and four work days per season shape club life; investments are funded by membership fees and voluntary work. The club has about 350 members and serves local residents seeking affordable boat-club access.
History
The history of Gimonäs Båtklubb begins in the early 1980s at Båtgränd in Umeå, where a boat storage area with a small harbour and slipway existed. When the Öbacka housing area was built, the boats had to move; in September 1983 they relocated to the former oil harbour at Gimonäs. Initially the municipality ran the site. A self-builders' association represented boat builders towards the city until Gimonäs Båtförening was founded on 9 September 1985 – not 1986 as the club badge suggests. Founders were Birger Mårtensson, Per Kroon, Kurt Jonsson and Olle Hansson; at the spring 1986 annual meeting the association had 46 members. From 1 January 1991 the club took over operation and fee collection under a municipal contract. In the late 1990s the southern pier (1995) and northern pier (1996) were completed; in 1996 the club joined Svenska Båtunionen. In 1997–98 the northern harbour section was dredged to about two metres depth (around 7000 m³). In 1998 the name changed to Gimonäs Båtklubb. Later a new clubhouse was built; the site lies on the Umeälven below Kolbäcksbron and today includes a basin with nine jetties, sauna, fuel and sewage stations and a slipway. The municipal agreement runs until 2029; the club now has about 350 members.

Activities
Four work days per season with work duty, guard duty for members with berth or storage place, spontaneous member parties, recurring pea-soup evening in autumn, crane launch and haul-out, tractor for launch and haul-out; non-members may take out a launch contract to use the slipway.

Many new members are young families with their first boat.
