Bällstavikens Segel Sällskap
Bällstavikens Segel Sällskap (BSS) is a non-profit sailing club on Bällstaviken in the Stockholm area, with a visiting address at Solna Strandväg 39 in Solna and a postal address in Sundbyberg. The club enables members to sail and race, maintains pier facilities and berths, and promotes interest in sailing. Facilities include summer berths at the club piers, shore power and fresh water on the docks, and a clubhouse in Kyrkhamn for minor repairs; membership in Kyrkhamns Varvsförening also provides limited winter berths. Club life features Wednesday and Saturday sails with afternoon and evening starts, longer-distance events such as Vinnarvarvet, and social barbecues on the pier afterwards. Founded in 1933 in Sundbyberg, BSS has established itself over decades as an active harbour and sailing community in the region.
History
According to the club, Bällstavikens Segel Sällskap (BSS) was founded in 1933 in Sundbyberg and thus looks back on about 92 years of history up to 2025. It is organised as a non-profit association whose purpose is to enable sailing enthusiasts to practise sailing and racing, to establish and maintain pier facilities, and to raise general interest in sailing. Harbour rules in force since 1 April 2018 describe BSS as a club for boat owners seeking a safe and pleasant harbour; maintenance is carried out by the members themselves. The summer season runs from 1 May to 30 October and the winter season from 1 November to 30 April of the following calendar year; berths at the piers are allocated by the club, and members may apply for winter berths. BSS is a member of Kyrkhamns Varvsförening and thereby has limited access to winter places; those who wish to use them must also apply for KVF membership. A clubhouse in Kyrkhamn is available for minor repairs. Over the years the website documents regular sailing programmes with opening sails, National Day sails, the distance race Vinnarvarvet, Wednesday sails, crayfish and pea-soup sails, and season finales, often with a social barbecue on the pier.
