Restaurant&Bar Segelclub Bregenz
The Bregenzer Segel-Club (BSC) is a traditional sailing club on Lake Constance in Bregenz and, founded in 1895, the second-oldest club on the lake. At its location at Strandweg 47 in Bregenz marina, the club offers a clubhouse with the Soulplace restaurant, an active fleet of around 100 yachts and currently about 300 members aged from six to well over ninety. The BSC promotes sailing in the Optimist, Laser/ILCA, 420 and J/70 classes with club-owned boats, regular Saturday youth training and summer sailing camps. As an experienced organiser, the club runs events including the West-East regatta, the One Design Cup, club regattas and the Sie & Er race, and participates in the Segelbundesliga with J/70 teams. Youth sailing is central: Optimist boats are provided free of charge to members, and the club combines family life with active regatta sport. Internationally, the BSC has hosted major events such as the X-99 World Championship in 2004 and numerous Lake Constance classics.
History
The Bregenzer Segel-Club (BSC) was founded in 1895 and is the second-oldest sailing club on Lake Constance. Today the club has around 300 members and about 100 yachts, offering a home for sailing enthusiasts from six-year-olds to sailors well over ninety. Since its founding, the BSC has seen itself as a promoter of sailing, combining performance orientation, teamwork, technology, family and youth development with sailing in harmony with nature. As an experienced organiser, the club regularly hosts major international events and established regattas such as the SWorld Cup of Aphrodite 101, the X-99 World Championship 2004, the European Cup of 30 m² Skerry cruisers in 2006 and 2014, the International Swiss Lacustre Championship 2008, the Lacustre Deutsche Bank European Cup, the West-East regatta in cooperation with Konstanzer Yachtclub (200–230 boats), the One Design Cup with around 40–50 boats and 240–300 participants, club and Sie & Er regattas, the children's Optimist sailing week and ongoing youth training. The East-West or West-East regatta was originally run as a mid-lake regatta and, in its tradition of more than fifty years, has ranked among the most popular sailing events on Lake Constance. Since the 1970s, the Wednesday regatta has followed the Wednesday Night Race model; sailing clubs around Bregenz Bay take turns organising the races under yardstick scoring. Club presidents have included Wolfgang Pschorr (1986–1999), Uli Diem (1999–2006), Max Renner (2006–2011) and Hanspeter Simma (2011–2020); in 2020 the BSC celebrated its 125th anniversary with a gala and anniversary meeting. Extracts from the book "100 Years of Club History" are available on the website.
