Blankeneser Segel-Club e.V.
Blankeneser Segel-Club e.V. (BSC) was founded in 1898 and was the first sailing club located directly on the River Elbe in Hamburg. With more than 900 members, the club ranks among Germany's largest and most prominent sailing clubs and operates a floating club pontoon with harbour facilities, foreshore areas and moorings at Blankenese Jollenhafen, plus a historic boathouse on Strandweg. The sailing area covers the Elbe and Mühlener Loch with changing winds, tides, currents and commercial shipping – a demanding environment for classes from Optimist dinghies to larger keelboats. The youth section offers structured training in Opti, Pirat and ILCA, training camps and regatta development; top teams sail J/70 and J/24 in the German Sailing League. The club regularly hosts major events including the "Letzte Helden" regatta and co-organises the Senatspreis der Elbe, alongside an active club life with pontoon gastronomy and the Blankeneser HochSeeSegler winter lecture series.
History
Blankeneser Segel-Club (BSC) was founded in 1898 as the first sailing club with a direct location on the Elbe in Hamburg. Over more than 125 years it has grown into one of Germany's most significant sailing clubs, now counting more than 950 members. The club operates a floating pontoon with harbour facilities, foreshore and moorings at Blankenese Jollenhafen, and a historic boathouse on Blankenese Strandweg. The extensive sailing area on the Elbe and Mühlener Loch suits all classes from Optimist to larger yachts and offers a uniquely challenging setting with tides, currents and large commercial traffic. The youth department celebrated its centenary in 2014; youth work and training have traditionally been central to the club. BSC has a long history of hosting regattas on the Elbe, including international and national championships, the "Letzte Helden" as the largest Elbe regatta with over 100 boats, co-organisation of the Senatspreis der Elbe and the Störtebeker Opti Cup off Heligoland. BSC teams compete in J/70 and J/24 in the German Sailing League and at national and international regattas; the club also co-hosts the Elbe Super Sailing Tour. Members can use Mühlener Loch racers for hire, and fortnightly Wednesday sailing behind Hanskalbsand is a club tradition. Club life centres on the refurbished pontoon with gastronomy, social events and the Blankeneser HochSeeSegler lecture series. Current projects such as boathouse renovation reflect the club's aim to preserve tradition while modernising its facilities.

Youth section
The BSC youth section fosters interest in sailing through structured training, sailing camps and educational sessions, and promotes regatta sport among younger members. Around 130 active juniors sail in Opti, Pirat and ILCA classes; the programme also includes school sailing in Optimists and cutters, winter theory courses, taster sailing, club regattas, Opti summer camps and training camps. Training on the Elbe on several weekdays is supported by safety and coach boats; qualified full-time and part-time coaches lead the groups.
