Brejning Båd Klub

Brejning Båd Klub (BBK) is an active sailing and boat club on Vejle Fjord in Brejning, Denmark, closely linked to the modern marina Brejning Lystbådehavn. The club offers berths with power and water, a clubhouse, slipway, mast crane and an equipment hall for the sections. Besides the J/70 and racing sections there are youth, kayak, rowing and sailing school programmes, plus regattas, joint trips and social events. Founded in 1972 and a Dansk Sejlunion member since 1976, the club welcomes beginners and experienced sailors and fosters a strong community life on the fjord.

History

Brejning Båd Klub was founded in 1972; the founding general meeting was held on 4 September 1972 at the former Brejning Hotel. Membership then cost 5 kroner for voting members. In winter 1972/73 materials for the clubhouse and piers were purchased and a slipway was built on the beach. In spring 1973 the club had 61 members; beach storage cost 5 kroner and a berth on the outer pier 60 kroner. In the following years the harbour was expanded: June 1973 eastern groyne, April 1974 wash-down pump and beacon light, March 1975 two piers inside the moles, March 1976 youth section and admission to Dansk Sejlunion. May 1977 festival and racing committees and Wednesday races, May 1978 mast crane, May 1979 rebuilding after a hard winter, March 1980 beacons, May 1981 ladies' Tuesday racing. In 1982 Tipsmidler grants of 50,000 kroner funded a new clubhouse; on 4 September 1982 the club celebrated its tenth anniversary. In the 1990s volunteers expanded facilities and the clubhouse, bought a crane from Faurby in Skærbæk and acquired the plot from the former Vejle County including land and moles. In the 2000s an agreement with URUP Development shaped the site; Foreningen Brejning Lystbådehavn was established and the harbour was inaugurated in its present size in 2006. Kayak and rowing sections followed; the rowing section was set up in 2016 and now has five inriggers. Recently a large equipment hall was built behind the mast shed; the next project is renovation of the ageing clubhouse.
