Basler Segel Club
Basler Segel Club is a regatta-oriented sailing club in Kaiseraugst on the Rhine with club grounds, a small harbour, dry berths and the cosy Sägler-Huus right by the water. Members sail dinghies on the reservoir above the Augst-Wyhlen power station, where the Rhine is about 120 to 200 metres wide and the stretch to Rheinfelden is around five kilometres long. The club especially supports the Pirate and 470 classes, keeps club dinghies available and promotes juniors with training in Optimist and Pirate as well as taster days. From May to October the season is shaped by in-house regattas, team races, major class events and joint activities with Segelclub Pratteln.
History
Basler Segel Club was founded on 21 January 1943 in the middle of the Second World War. The club was able to lease a riverside plot in Kaiseraugst whose owners changed several times and which now belongs to the local citizens' community of Kaiseraugst, which remains well disposed toward the club. On this land the members built, through hard voluntary work and with the consent of the respective landowners, a practical harbour and a clubhouse that is registered in the land registry as club property. The club grew into a regatta-oriented Rhine club and has long favoured specific boat classes so that large fleets of the same boats can train and race within the club. Pirate and 470 are especially supported; both are recognised by the Swiss Sailing Federation and entitle the club to host Swiss championships. Regattas in the 470 and Pirate classes count toward their annual point championships. Juniors receive regular training in Optimist and Pirate, and the club maintains a close relationship with neighbouring Segelclub Pratteln, with whom team races and the Niggi Näggi Cup are organised jointly. Today the club has somewhat more than one hundred active members and offers club grounds with harbour, dry berths and the Sägler-Huus by the water.
