Bådklubben Vidå
Bådklubben Vidå, also known as Lægan, is a boat club on the freshwater river Vidå near Tønder in southern Denmark, about 16 kilometres from the Wadden Sea. Founded in 1945, the club offers 73 berths of various sizes and a clubhouse; boats range from small dinghies to 26-foot motorboats. There are expressly no sailing yachts, because sailing under sail is not permitted on the Vidå and numerous bridges would also make passage to the Wadden Sea difficult. Most members use their boats for fishing, especially trolling, and the club organises club evenings, spring work days, weed-clearing and barbecue afternoons, as well as an annual junior trip for children and parents together with Sportsfiskerforening Vidå. Distinctive features are the nature experiences along the reed beds with rich birdlife and the chance, in season, to witness the “Sort sol” murmuration phenomenon.
History
Bådklubben Vidå was founded in 1945 and is also known as Lægan. The club lies on the freshwater Vidå and is about 16 kilometres from the Wadden Sea, making it a rather atypical boat club by Danish standards. Today it provides 73 berths of various sizes. Boats in the harbour range from small dinghies to 26-foot motorboats. There are no sailboats in the club: sailing under sail is not allowed on the Vidå and would be further hindered by the many bridges on the way to the Wadden Sea. Most members use their boats for fishing on the Vidå, especially trolling for the many fish species found there. The stretch from Lægan to Rudbøl is special because one can barely reach the water from the bank, so fishing is practically only possible by boat. Trips on the Vidå are valued as major nature experiences with rich birdlife in the reeds and the chance, in the right season, to see “Sort sol”. The clubhouse was built in 1994; the original tables and chairs were already second-hand donations and were only replaced in 2026 with a grant of 30,000 kroner from Nordjyllandsfonden. Club life includes regular club evenings in the clubhouse, spring work days at the harbour including renewal of the long walkway to the lawn, weed-clearing and barbecue afternoons, and the annual flag-lowering ceremony. Together with Sportsfiskerforening Vidå the club also runs a traditional junior fishing trip to Magisterkogen for children and parents.
