Boo Segelsällskap

Boo Segelsällskap is a non-profit sailing club in Saltsjö-Boo near Stockholm, based at Mjölkudden on the northern Baggensfjärden in the Stockholm archipelago. The club focuses on dinghy and racing sailing and provides a clubhouse, boat house and jetties; sailing school and training take place on site. The programme serves children, juniors and adults – from sailing school and staged Optimist training to ILCA and adult sailing – including regattas and club activities. Sailing at the site dates back to 1983; since 2011 Boo Segelsällskap has been an independent club and belongs to Stockholms Seglarförbund.

History

Sailing in Boo started in 1983 as a section within Boo IF; the first active sailing year was 1984. In 2011 the independent club Boo Segelsällskap was formed. The sailing school was created to give children and juniors a safe, enjoyable introduction to sailing and to guide them into training and racing. It began small with about 20 participants and grew to six-week courses with up to 400 participants each summer. Instructors are mainly recruited from within the club. Sporting successes include Charlie Ekberg (Zoom8 world champion, 2003), Fredrik Schramm (Zoom8 European and world champion, 2004), Caroline Schramm (Zoom8 European champion, 2005) and Cecilia Collings (Hobie Cat 16 European champion, 2009, named Sailor of the Year by SSF). From the start the club has used Mjölkudden. In 1999 the clubhouse of about 120 m² was built; in 2005 the kiosk was renovated; in 2007 the boat house was erected. In 2009 the entire shoreline was reinforced; later one of the jetties was replaced by a permanent concrete jetty.
