Base Nautique de l'Île Grande
Base Nautique de l'Île Grande (BNIG) is a French sailing school and Association Loi 1901 on the Pink Granite Coast on Île Grande near Pleumeur-Bodou in Brittany. The centre sits right by the water and offers approved accommodation with 40 beds, changing rooms, a workshop and a varied fleet including Optimist, 420, 470, ILCA, Hobie Cat and other craft. It provides sailing courses for children and adults, year-round recreational sailing, racing groups, hire and instructor training, recognised by the Fédération Française de Voile. Since its founding in 1972, BNIG has combined sailing tuition, residential stays and youth development on a unique sailing area between islands and the granite coastline.
History
Base Nautique de l'Île Grande was founded in 1972 as an Association Loi 1901 to develop and democratise sailing. As a non-profit association it is run by a bureau and a board of volunteers; board members are elected at the general assembly. BNIG is affiliated to the Fédération Française de Voile and holds the labels École française de voile, Voile loisir and École de sport. Over the years a combined centre of sailing school, approved accommodation with 40 beds and training for future instructors and school managers grew up at Pors Gelen on Île Grande on the Pink Granite Coast. Today the base offers year-round courses, recreational sailing, group and school stays and holiday programmes on a sheltered sailing area between islands and the mainland bridge.
