Assens Sejlklub
Assens Sejlklub is a traditional sailing club with more than 100 years of history at the tip of Assens Næs in the middle of the Little Belt. The clubhouse offers teaching and lounge rooms as well as a green barbecue area; the modern marina is operated by Assens Marina Amba with secure winter storage. Around 150 members sail motor and sailing boats, take part in popular Wednesday handicap races and use the Sejlerakademi for Duelighedsbevis and speedboat licence courses. The active youth section sails on Thursdays during the season; coaches and safety boats hold at least a speedboat licence. The club is a member of Dansk Sejlunion and combines regatta sport with community activities such as lectures, barbecue evenings, casual sailing meet-ups and joint cruises throughout the Little Belt region.
History
Assens Sejlklub looks back on more than 100 years of club history and is located with its clubhouse on Assens Næs in the middle of the Little Belt, offering ideal conditions for day sails. The club has a long tradition in handicap racing; the Wednesday races regularly attract ten to fifteen boats of very different types and sizes, starting with a skipper briefing in the clubhouse. The season traditionally begins on the last Wednesday in April and runs through summer into autumn; after racing there is coffee, smørrebrød and drinks in the clubhouse at very competitive prices. Since 2024 the Wednesday races have been modernised: instead of GPH rating certificates, TACI and TAUD scoring following Dansk Sejlunion recommendations is used, and skippers may register two rating certificates per half-season. Inexperienced sailors may also sail under flag for extra safety on the course. The club is a member of Dansk Sejlunion; the marina is run by Assens Marina Amba and offers a modern leisure harbour with good winter storage. Alongside racing, departments such as Klubliv, Mandagsholdet, Plimsollerne, Sejlerakademiet and Ungdomsafdelingen shape club life with lectures, barbecues, joint trips and training programmes.
