Askrike Segelsällskap
Askrike Segelsällskap (ASS) is a non-profit sailing and boating club founded in 1948 that operates its harbour facility in Askrike on the island of Lidingö in the Stockholm archipelago. The club has roughly 200 to 235 wet berths, 35 dinghy spaces ashore on the pier and about 100 winter storage places; it also owns the clubhouse, mast shed, tool sheds, cranes and electricity and water installations. Pontoons and harbour grounds are leased from the City of Lidingö. Club life is based on voluntary work, shared club duties and organised slip dates for spring launching and autumn haul-out. Members must be registered in Lidingö and stand in the municipal boat waiting list; since 2006 the community has expressly cultivated values such as helpfulness, initiative, tolerance and respect.
History
Askrike Segelsällskap was founded in 1948 and has since established itself as a non-profit and open association whose purpose is to run the harbour facility in Askrike and to provide berth and winter storage places for members. The club leases the pier, quays and yard area as well as pontoon docks from the City of Lidingö and owns the clubhouse, mast shed, tool sheds, cranes and technical installations. In spring 2006 about 60 members agreed on a shared value base under the guiding concept of participation (Delaktighet) with the principles of helpfulness, initiative, tolerance, respect and humility. Membership requires residence in Lidingö and a place in the municipal boat waiting list; anyone who joined after 2011 and moves away from Lidingö must vacate berth, trailer and storage places within two years. The club annually organises communal launching and haul-out with mobile crane and slip trolley, maintains an environmental policy including a TBT remediation plan and offers members access to the hull wash in Bosöviken. Besides harbour operations, club parties such as the 2015 autumn festival in the clubhouse and cooperation with the Lidingö dinghy sailors at Bosön belong to club life. Today the club counts several hundred members and maintains a mixed fleet of motorboats, sailing boats, catamarans as well as dinghies and canoes.
