Arendals Seilforening
Arendals Seilforening is a historic sailing club in Arendal on Norway's southern coast, based on Lille Brattholmen in the Rævesandsfjord. The Seilerhytta with jetties, guest harbour, kiosk and sauna is the club hub; additional berths and club boats are in Kittelsbukt. The programme covers Optimist and Europe dinghies, boardsailing, BB11 keelboats, Express keelboats of the Maritim Mestring group, and racing and cruising with Tur & Hav. Youth and adult training, beginner courses, Wednesday and Thursday racing, and major events such as NOV Race Week define the season. Since its founding in 1878 and the opening of the Seilerhytta in 1938, the club has hosted national, Nordic, European and world championships.
History
Arendals Seilforening was founded on 12 December 1878 on the initiative of Chr. Stephansen and has operated continuously since then. The first Landsregatta in Arendal was held in 1886. Since Midsummer 1938 the club has been based on Lille Brattholmen in the Rævesandsfjord; the Seilerhytta has been expanded repeatedly and is a popular guest harbour. The great sailing event in club history was the 1948 Landsregatta with royal participation. Since then ASF has hosted many Norwegian, Nordic, European and world championships for various classes, including the Europe World Championship 2015 and the X41 World Championship during APL Race Week 2010. The BB11 group was formed in 1995 and has organised an annual mountain hike since 1997. Maritim Mestring was established with support from the Gjensidige Foundation and runs six 25.5 ft keelboats for courses and inclusive sailing. In 2015 the club moved membership administration to Klubbadmin. Today operations are organised in the subgroups Jolle & Brett, Tur & Hav, BB11 and Maritim Mestring, plus the Seilerhytta and Moland Havn harbour.
