Augsburger Segler-Club e.V.
Augsburger Segler-Club e.V. (ASC) has been one of Bavaria's largest and most traditional sailing clubs since its founding on 24 June 1903, located on the western shore of Lake Ammersee in Utting. With more than 550 members, including around 150 in the youth and junior section, the club combines regatta sailing, recreational sailing and a strong community under the motto "Sailing with friends – for life!". The club grounds offer more than 300 land and water berths, boat halls, harbour facilities with crane and slipway, a 12-metre mast crane and the Casino club restaurant with terrace. During the season, around 20 regattas take place on almost every weekend – from the Fuchsjagd and ASC Trophy to international championships. Young sailors start from age six in Optimist, ILCA, 29er and J/70; adults benefit from training, Friday regattas and an active fleet in classes such as Dragon, H-Boot, Jollenkreuzer and O-Jolle.
History
Augsburger Segler-Club e.V. was founded on 24 June 1903 and is registered in the Augsburg register of associations under VR 697. For more than 120 years, the ASC on the western shore of Lake Ammersee in Utting has developed into one of Bavaria's largest and most traditional sailing clubs. The club now has more than 550 members and extensive grounds with boat halls, harbour facilities, jetties, crane, slipways, a 12-metre mast crane, clubhouse, dinghy house with a balcony over the lake and the Casino club restaurant. With more than 300 land and water berths, the ASC is one of the most significant harbour facilities on Lake Ammersee. Its regatta programme is among the most active in Bavaria: during the season, events take place on almost every weekend, totalling around 20 regattas per year – from local races to international championships. Traditional highlight events include the Fuchsjagd held since the 1960s, the ASC long-distance race with summer festival, the ASC youth week in the first week of August, Oldies but Goldies as part of the Ammersee Classic Series and the Drachenhumpen as one of Europe's largest Dragon regattas. The ASC actively promotes classes such as Dragon, H-Boot, ILCA, Optimist, Jollenkreuzer, O-Jolle, 29er and J/70 and supports traditional wooden boats for the Ammersee Classics. The youth and junior section with around 150 members has offered sailing training from age six for many years, with weekly training, Lake Garda training camps and financial youth support. On 22 March 2026, 133 members elected Pius-Benedikt Horber as the new chairman, Felix Hauser as treasurer and Sophia Aichinger as youth officer; Peter Liebner was awarded the Golden Honorary Pin and recognised for 50 years of membership.
