Akademischer Seglerverein zu Greifswald e.V.
Akademischer Seglerverein zu Greifswald e.V. is the oldest sailing club in the Hanseatic city and has been based on the Greifswalder Bodden since 1908. As a student-oriented club with a boat hall, around 40 water berths in Wieck, a crane, dinghy slipway and club boats Stubber, Thetis, Baba Jaga plus the Ixylon dinghies Möwe and Albatros, it offers training, after-work and cruising sailing. Taster sails, the joint youth section, SBF, SKS and SRC courses and the traditional Wednesday regatta in the Dänische Wiek shape the programme for beginners and advanced sailors. Once reserved for academics and now open to all, the club connects young students with experienced members and regularly receives German Sailing Federation awards for training quality.
History
Akademischer Seglerverein zu Greifswald e.V. was founded in 1908 and is thus the oldest sailing club in Greifswald with more than 115 years of history. From the outset, promoting student sailing was central; this mission remains anchored in the statutes and is the club's unique selling point. For decades, members have volunteered to inspire countless students for sailing and train them thoroughly, reflected in an active student section and recurring DSV awards for training quality. In 1976, members built the two Hiddensee-type quarter-tonners Stubber and Thetis themselves, which still serve as training, racing and cruising boats for the student section. Since autumn 2018, the J/92s Baba Jaga has complemented the fleet and is also used for SKS training. The identical Ixylon dinghies Möwe and Albatros provide an entry into dinghy sailing on the Greifswalder Bodden; after a refit and new paint they were ceremonially named. Once reserved for academics, today's modern ASV is open to everyone: a high student share keeps the club young while members of all ages benefit from each other. Besides regattas and weekend trips to Rügen or Usedom, winter work in the club hall and a varied winter programme shape club life.
