Alingsås Segelsällskap

Alingsås Segelsällskap is a traditional Swedish sailing club founded in 1878 and based on Lake Mjörn near Alingsås. The club harbour is at Alfhem and has been used since 1938; it has two floating pontoons with around 130 to 150 berths, a dinghy jetty with ramp, boat and mast cranes, and a clubhouse open year-round with storage. The programme includes youth and dinghy sailing, keelboat sailing, Thursday racing and a sailing school for children in Optimist dinghies as well as adult courses. Members can also use the club-owned islands Norseskären and Pellholmen with a club cottage. As a member of Svenska Seglarförbundet and Svenska Båtunionen, the club emphasises safety, the environment and good seamanship.

History

Alingsås Segelsällskap was founded in 1878 as a non-profit association with a long sailing tradition. Since 1938 the club has had its harbour at Alfhem on Lake Mjörn. Its purpose is to promote boating with a focus on sailing and to foster safety, environmental care and camaraderie. The club belongs to Svenska Båtunionen and Svenska Seglarförbundet. At Alfhem there are today about 150 berths, slip and mast crane facilities, a wash pad, clubhouse and storage; the club also owns the islands Norseskären and Pellholmen with a cottage for members. Club activities cover youth, dinghy and keelboat sailing as well as association life. For the 2026 season, new outdoor furniture for the veranda was built thanks to a member’s craftsmanship and a memorial gift, and the sailing school reported successful courses with 24 younger and 13 older participants.
