Aalborg Sejlklub – Aalborg Marina
Aalborg Sejlklub is the largest sailing club in the North Jutland region and operates Marina Fjordparken on the Limfjord in western Aalborg. The club offers watersports for members and guest sailors with a clubhouse, harbour office, pontoons, crane facilities, mast crane and departments ranging from Optimist youth sailing and Wednesday racing to the sailing school. The programme includes youth training on two evenings per week, weekly Wednesday regattas, summer camp, sailing school courses and social events such as the Friday bar and Midsummer's Eve celebrations. Founded in 1899, the club is among the oldest sailing clubs in Aalborg and moved to Marina Fjordparken in 1985; today it brings together active, passive, youth and guest members in one of Denmark's busiest harbours.
History
On the evening of 9 September 1899, several boat owners in Aalborg met to discuss the terms for a match race planned for the next day. They felt matters would be better organised with an association behind the event, and shortly before midnight they founded Aalborg Sejlklub, appointing translator C. Rasmussen as chairman. Although Aalborg Sejlklub is the oldest existing sailing club in Aalborg, it was not the first: seven years earlier the Sejlforeningen Freya was formed, which only existed briefly, but whose initiators in 1892 and 1899 were partly the same people. The club was based in the northern part of Vestre Bådehavn with the Jungshoved wheelhouse as clubhouse and also in Skudehavnen. In 1985 Aalborg Sejlklub moved to the newly built Marina Fjordparken on Skydebanevej in western Aalborg. Between 1983 and 1985 the club had berths in all three harbour sections and set up temporary facilities in the marina before taking over the completed site in 1985. Membership has grown steadily over the years and includes active, passive, junior, honorary and guest members as well as youth members. Today Aalborg Sejlklub is regarded as the region's largest sailing club with diverse departments for youth, racing, sailing school, cruising and club social life.
