Christinehamns Segelsällskap
Christinehamns Segelsällskap (CSS) is a traditional sailing club in Kristinehamn on the eastern shore of Lake Vänern, Scandinavia's largest lake. The club traces its roots to 1878 and is regarded as the oldest sailing club around Vänern and among the oldest in Sweden. The clubhouse stands on Vålösundsvägen with views of the club's own jetties and the archipelago. CSS organises major regattas, including the Swedish Championship for Albin Express, and uses the clubhouse as the central hub for registration, race office and after-sail gatherings. Parking is available near the harbour and crane; the club community also maintains a strong focus on environmental care around harbour and bathing water.
History
Christinehamns Segelsällskap has roots dating back to 1878 and is among the oldest sailing clubs on Lake Vänern as well as among the oldest in Sweden. The club is based in Kristinehamn on the eastern shore of Vänern, where the large archipelago of more than 20,000 islands and skerries begins. Over the years a clubhouse was established on Vålösundsvägen overlooking the jetties and the archipelago; shared memories of members continue to be made there. CSS is committed to environmental work: members are encouraged to follow the club's environmental rules and waste plan, dispose of rubbish at designated places and not empty waste into bathing water. More recently the club was entrusted with organising the Swedish Championship for Albin Express, supported by Kristinehamns Kappseglare. The clubhouse serves as the central meeting point for registration, race office and results, while the race harbour and jetties support racing operations. In this way CSS combines long tradition with active regatta organisation and club community life on Vänern.
