Real Club Náutico de Ribadeo

Real Club Náutico de Ribadeo is a long-established sailing and yacht club on the Ría de Ribadeo at Porcillán, Galicia, on the border with Asturias. The club runs a marina with more than 400 member berths and 28 visitor berths and is one of only four Galician marinas flying the Blue Flag — the only one in the province of Lugo. Members have access to an office, Wi-Fi, showers, laundry, a fuel dock, a 32-tonne travel lift, a sailing school and a full regatta programme. Juniors and adults take sailing courses, race Optimists and take part in the annual Semana Náutica; visiting sailors are welcomed on VHF channel 9 with prior booking. Founded in 1974 as Club Náutico del Eo, the club has become a key port of call for cruising and racing sailors on the Cantabrian coast.

History

Real Club Náutico de Ribadeo was founded on 22 August 1974 as Club Náutico del Eo to promote sport on a non-profit basis. The first board comprised President Mario López Dura, Vice-President Manuel Parga López and members Jesús Posada Otero, Andrés Tojal Rouco, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo Bustelo and José Carlos González Amado; the statutes then set an entry fee of 500 pesetas and a monthly fee of 100 pesetas. Presidents over the decades were Manuel Parga López (1974–1990), José Antonio Ramil Acebo (1990–1995), Ernesto Cruzado Estévez (1995–2000), Gervasio Cao Expósito (2000–2008), Mario Coto Otero (2008–2012), Ramón Acuña González (2012–2020), Juan Calvo-Sotelo Ibáñez-Martín (2020–2022) and, since 2022, Pablo Fernández Ferreyra. The club sits in Porcillán at the historic heart of Ribadeo on the estuary and today has around 800 to over 900 members and more than 400 boats. It is one of four Blue Flag marinas in Galicia and the only one in Lugo province. Recent years brought pontoon and dry-stack upgrades, LED lighting and electrical renewals, digital smart pedestals funded by Next Generation grants, and the NAUTIC management system. In 2024 the club marked its 50th anniversary and hosted the XXXIV Semana Náutica; 2025 brought the XXXV Semana Náutica with the XXVII Trofeo Deputación de Lugo. ICTE Q quality and S sustainability marks and a renewed Blue Flag underline its standards for harbour operations and environmental care. The sailing school races Optimists at events such as the Opti Sada Cup and runs summer and Easter sailing courses.
