Club Deportivo Náutico de León
Club Deportivo Náutico de León is a non-profit sports club on the Embalse de Barrios de Luna reservoir at Mirantes de Luna in the province of León, Spain. Members use facilities for water sports and leisure, including a swimming pool with green areas, barbecues, children's play zones, a disco, and a bar-restaurant with terrace plus shared spaces. The programme includes sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, water skiing and wakeboarding as well as outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, abseiling, archery and orienteering. According to the club statutes, the main sports are water skiing and wakeboarding; sailing, canoeing, powerboating and swimming are practised in dedicated sections. The club was founded in the 1960s and offers members recreation and competition opportunities on Embalse de Luna.
History
The history of the Club Náutico dates back to the 1960s, when a group of friends founded a sports club to enjoy nature and the nautical setting of the Embalse de Barrios de Luna reservoir in León. With permission from the Confederación Hidrográfica del Duero, owner of the land around the reservoir perimeter, adjoining plots next to the abandoned village of Mirantes de Luna were ceded, and the Club Náutico de León began there. As a private sports association with legal personality, Club Deportivo Náutico de León promotes and develops sports, their practice by members, and participation in competitions on a non-profit basis. Its aims include physical-sporting activities, fostering exercise and sport in general, initial sporting training for members, and participation in federated competitions. According to the statutes, water skiing and wakeboarding are the main sports; sailing, canoeing, powerboating and swimming are practised in sections. Today the club is based in Mirantes de Luna (Los Barrios de Luna) and also runs an office in León; a restaurant on the club grounds is open to the general public in certain seasons.
