Real Club Náutico CAS de Ceuta

Real Club Náutico CAS de Ceuta is a traditional sports club at the Dársena Deportiva in Ceuta, at the meeting point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The club provides facilities for cruising sailing, dinghy sailing, windsurfing, offshore fishing, boat and kayak angling, spearfishing and diving in all modalities, and its infrastructure includes a restaurant, social lounge, marine aquarium, multimedia classroom, cylinder filling station and maintenance workshop. Young sailors take part in Optimist regattas and dinghy sailing courses, while diving and fishing sections regularly organise trophies and cooperate with research projects. With more than fifty years dedicated to underwater activities, the historic Virgen del Carmen tradition since 1957 and a partnership with the Royal Yachting Club de M'Diq, the club shapes maritime life in Ceuta.

History

Real Club Náutico CAS de Ceuta looks back on a long maritime tradition in the Spanish enclave at the meeting of Mediterranean and Atlantic. As early as 1957, club divers placed the underwater image of the Virgen del Carmen, a custom still observed with a floral wreath, boat outing and communal paella. For more than fifty years the club has promoted underwater activities; the Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities (FEDAS) recognised this work on its 50th anniversary with a plaque and awarded founding member Juan Díaz Triano the Gold Medal for sporting merit. Sportingly the club stood out through its spearfishing team, fourth at the 2010 Spanish club championships, and through Óscar Cervantes, who has competed for CAS Ceuta since 2010 and became Spanish spearfishing champion in 2016. In sailing, members compete in Optimist winter leagues, dinghy regattas and Interclubs cruiser races in the Strait; in 2015 president Manuel García Durán signed a sporting and cultural partnership with the Royal Yachting Club de M'Diq. The club has also supported marine research with the CSIC and Reef Life Survey Spain and lends facilities and boats for events such as the Open Fotosub.
