Circolo Velico Ventimigliese
Circolo Velico Ventimigliese is a long-established sailing club on the Riviera dei Fiori in Ventimiglia, Liguria, linked to the sea and the town since 1936. As a non-profit sports association based at Lungomare Varaldo, it offers FIV-recognised sailing schools for children and adults and a strong Optimist racing team. Training and fleet use include Optimist, ILCA/Laser, 420 and Open Skiff; sailing takes place in Ventimiglia in summer and Bordighera in winter. Juniors and adults find coaching, regattas and community life; CONI awards and the 90th anniversary in 2026 underline the club’s long history.
History
Circolo Velico Ventimigliese was founded in 1936 by a group of Ventimiglia sea pioneers including Emilio Azzaretti, Adelchi Lorenzi, Giovanni Dell’Angelo, Dino Anfosso, Federico Civallero, Secondo Muratore, Luigi Guglielmi, Carlo Ferrero, Giobatta Palmero, Mario Marro, Mario Viale and Vincenzo Acquarone. From the start the club was affiliated to the Federazione Italiana Vela and shaped the town’s sailing and seafaring culture. Over nearly a century it became an essential reference point on the Riviera dei Fiori, keeping the values of tradition, sportsmanship and community. In 1977 CONI awarded the Stella di Bronzo al Merito Sportivo; in 2016 the Stella d’Argento followed. Since its foundation the club has been noted for youth work in sailing school and racing and for taking part in sporting events. Today its offer includes FIV-recognised schools for children and adults, an Optimist racing squad with zonal and national regattas, and cooperation with local institutions and associations. In 2026 the Circolo celebrates its 90th anniversary with events, historic regattas and gatherings open to the whole community.
