Circolo Vela Cremona A.S.D.
Circolo Vela Cremona A.S.D. has been a sailing club on the artificial Porto Canale in Cremona since 1976, a short distance from the River Po and in the shadow of the city's Torrazzo tower. As a CONI centre and club recognised by the Italian Sailing Federation, it operates a nautical base at Via Roncobasso 5 with a regatta course of about 650 metres on the canal basin. The fleet includes a Snipe fleet established in 1988 with nine boats and club Optimists; social regattas also use Laser, Flying Junior and 470 dinghies. Each spring and autumn the club runs adult courses on Snipe keelboats, and in June a youth course from age eight with simulator and Optimist practice. Regular social regattas, the annual Snipe match race and participation in zonal and national championships shape the club's sporting life.
History
Circolo Vela Cremona (C.V.Cr.) was founded in 1976 with around ten members and grew over decades into a fixture of Lombard sailing on the Porto Canale. Club leadership passed from Aldo Marnica and Benedetto la Malfa to Renato Bruni; Giovanni Peri has served as president for two terms. The current board was elected for 2025–2028 and comprises the president, five councillors and three auditors. The nautical base at Via Roncobasso 5 sits on the artificial Porto Canale, a waterway towards Pizzighettone and Milan with a basin at 38.30 m above sea level and at least 4.30 m draft. The limited racing area with shifting gusts up to about 20 knots is a demanding training ground. Since 1988 the club has maintained its own Snipe fleet, initially three registered boats; fleet 609 now has nine boats and 19 registered sailors under fleet captain Dario Bruni, Italian class champion in 2019. In 2006 the club celebrated its 30th anniversary with racing, ceremony and prizes. In 2024–2025 it adopted safeguarding codes and an organisational model under FIV and CONI rules; in 2025 the ASD gained legal personality. Sporting highlights include Andrea Cabrini's 2024 Italian junior Snipe title, podium finishes at Portovenere and Rimini, and offshore success such as Ernesto Folli's Tre Golfi 2026 win. Besides classical regatta activity the club runs E-Sailing on Virtual Regatta and long-standing social regattas, match races and FIV-recognised courses for children and adults.
