Circolo Nautico Porto Potenza Picena
Circolo Nautico Porto Potenza Picena is an amateur sports sailing club on the Adriatic coast in the Marche region, based on the Lungomare Marinai d'Italia in Porto Potenza Picena. Founded on 22 December 1975 and affiliated with the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), the club operates a modern, functional facility directly on the sea. It offers summer courses at the Francesco Silenzi sailing school for children, teenagers and adults on Optimist, ILCA 7 (Laser), Flying Junior and 420er dinghies, led by FIV-certified instructors. The club hosts zonal regattas, the annual Trofeo Coppa del Presidente and the Francesco Silenzi Memorial, and is one of the key sailing institutions in the municipality of Potenza Picena.
History
On the night before Christmas, 22 December 1975, beneath the Saracen tower of Sant'Anna in the local "Marinai d'Italia" section at Piazza Marotta no. 5, the CIRCOLO NAUTICO PORTO POTENZA PICENA was founded. Forty-one founding members – many from Porto Potenza, some from elsewhere – came together, united by their passion for the sea and sailing. Among the experienced mariners in the founding crew were Romolo Colafranceschi, Domenico Broccolo and Alessandro Principi, who over the years would serve as presidents of the new sports association. Today, more than four decades later, the club holds a prominent place among the sports organisations of the municipal area and is based in the new, functional structure on the Lungomare Marinai d'Italia. Affiliated with the Federazione Italiana Vela and currently presided over by Alessandro Principi, it brings together founding and seasonal members in a considerable community of enthusiasts. Activities are coordinated by a board of directors: vice-president Enrico Morichetti, sports director Silvano Di Chiara, treasurer Luca Leandri, secretary Luigi Garbuglia and councillors Alberto Storani, Paolo Malatini and Marone Luzi. The summer sailing school, originally developed under Paolo Giampaoli, is now led by sports director Silvano Di Chiara and sailing school manager Paolo Malatini. It relies on federal instructor Giulia Crispo and assistant instructors trained within the club – Ivan Pepa, Elettra Gheco, Alessandro Perini, Filippo Bontempi and Marta Malatini – and serves numerous students of all ages, not only from the local municipality. Institutional sponsors of this growing and successful activity are the Municipality of Potenza Picena and Assonautica Provinciale Macerata, whose vice-president Paolo Moscioni is a founding member. The sailing school named after Francesco Silenzi honours the late promoter, former sports director and outstanding sailor; each year on the last Sunday in August the club organises the Memorial regatta open to all classes, dinghies and catamarans. According to the official FIV calendar, zonal regattas are held annually for Optimist, Laser, 420 and other Olympic classes. On the last Sunday in July, coinciding with celebrations for the patron saint Sant'Anna, the Trofeo Coppa del Presidente takes place, open to all classes.
