Catamaran Club Ameland
Catamaran Club Ameland (CCA), also known as Cat Club Ameland, is the official catamaran sailing club on the Dutch North Sea island of Ameland near Hollum. The clubhouse sits on Zuid-West beach and is a base for catamarans, motorboats and canoes in deep water close to shore. Members use beach racks, a dolly and a club boat; the sailing season runs from April to October. Each year the club hosts Open Watersports Day with a catamaran contest and a safety drill with the KNRM. Founded in 1986, the club has about 50 members and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2026.
History
Catamaran Club Ameland (CCA), also known as Cat Club Ameland, was founded in 1986 by enthusiastic local catamaran sailors on Ameland. The club has a clubhouse on the beach on the southwest coast near Hollum and stores catamarans on beach racks; a dolly is available for transport across the beach. Members without their own boat can use a club boat. The sailing season runs from early April through October; typical trips go across the Wadden Sea, around the island or to the North Sea coast of Ameland and Terschelling. Each year the club organises Open Watersports Day with a catamaran demonstration and other water-sport events, plus a safety drill on righting and recovering capsized catamarans together with the KNRM. In 2025 the clubhouse received a new roof; a solar power system was also installed and a signal flagpole damaged by a hang-glider was replaced. In October 2025 the last catamaran was moved to winter storage in time before a storm surge. At the members’ meeting in February 2026 marking the 40th anniversary, fees and house rules were adjusted and the board expanded to seven members. Today the club has about 50 members with catamaran, sailing boat, motorboat or kayak.
