History

Club Náutico Moraira was founded in 1975 as a non-profit sports association to promote nautical sports. At the first meeting José Mallent Castelló was elected first president and led the club until 1978. He was followed by Jesús Navarro Ariza (1978–1989), Francisco Zaragosí Moliner (1989–2000) and Armando Bañón Alba (2000–2018); Juan Vicente Oller has been president since then. In 1980 the club obtained a 30-year state concession to build and operate the Port of Moraira; in 1987 the Generalitat Valenciana extended the concession by a further 20 years. In 1985 the marina works were completed through the members' own financial effort. The club was a pioneer of the Blue Flag for clean European seas and still holds the award, most recently renewed for 2026/2027. Since 2009 it holds AENOR ISO 9001 certification for sports events, shipyard, fuel station and berth rental. Today the club has about 750 members and around 24 staff in administration, yard and harbour services. It organises sailing regattas, youth events such as the Jocs Esportius Optimist, powerboat and fishing competitions, and the Colosos del Mediterráneo science project with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography.
