Club Náutico Guadalmena Sierra de Segura

Club Náutico Guadalmena is a traditional sports and leisure club on the Presa de Guadalmena reservoir in the north-eastern part of Jaén province, near the Sierra de Segura. It is regarded as one of the first Andalusian clubs for inland water sports and offers pontoons with moorings and a concrete slipway access. The clubhouse includes a bar and restaurant with terrace overlooking the reservoir, a multipurpose hall, secretariat, changing rooms and storage, plus a 25-by-13-metre pool with lawn. The programme covers powerboating, sailing including Optimist, water skiing, canoeing, swimming and angling, as well as the annual Semana de Vela for children from age seven and adults. Since its founding in 1970 the club has been a member of the Andalusian powerboat federation and hosts regional and national competitions.

History

Club Náutico Guadalmena was founded in spring 1970 at the Presa de Guadalmena reservoir. On 26 April 1970 an organising committee was formed under Manuel Ardoy Medina, former doctor of the dam works, with the patronage of Real Club Mediterráneo de Málaga. From September 1970 activities began with the first powerboat races for the Andalusian championship, about forty members and a floating pontoon. In the first year the club reached the statutory maximum of 264 founding members and opened further membership categories. It occupies ministry land in the municipality of Chiclana de Segura; the reservoir holds about 347 million cubic metres across Chiclana de Segura, Segura de la Sierra and La Puerta de Segura. The club federated in powerboating, sailing, rowing, canoeing, water skiing, swimming, angling and clay-pigeon and archery shooting; today powerboating, angling, water skiing, sailing, canoeing and swimming predominate. Thirty-six powerboat regattas have been held, including Spanish championship races and international events such as the Trofeo Ibérico. In 2001 club athletes became Spanish champions in powerboat class T-850. Over the years more than seven hundred families belonged to the club; almost eight hundred people have been or are members. Honorary president and founder Manuel Ardoy Medina led the club from 1970 to 1999, followed by Andrés Gualda Bueno, Alfredo Floro González, Eugenio Gómez González, Andrés Ardoy Gutiérrez and Francisca María Guerrero Villar. The current president is María José Alcántara Gámez.
