Club Náutico Gallineras
Club Náutico Gallineras is a non-profit sailing and nautical sports club in San Fernando near Cádiz, located in the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park at the Gallineras quay. The club runs a marina with 303 berths including electricity, water, WiFi, marina staff and 24-hour security with permanent watch on VHF channel 9, plus a boatyard and club restaurant. The programme includes sailing, free light sailing activities for children, fishing contests and traditional maritime events such as the Virgen del Carmen sea procession. Since the 1997 renaming, promoting nautical sport while protecting the ecological setting has been central to the club.
History
Club Náutico de Gallineras was first established on 23 February 1991 as Asociación Deportiva de Pesca Isla de León. On 14 May 1997 the name change to Club Náutico de Gallineras was approved. Since then the club has operated as a private non-profit organisation whose main aim is nautical sport while defending and promoting the ecological environment without altering natural conditions. The marina lies within Parque Natural Bahía de Cádiz and is subject to the applicable protection and management plans, including the Natural Resources Management Plan and Use and Management Plan (Decree 79/2004) and the Sustainable Development Plan (Decree 177/2006). Nearby areas include the Marismas de Sancti Petri, the Caño Sancti-Petri, Punta del Boquerón and Playa de Camposoto. Organised fishing and group nautical events in the natural park require authorisation from the environment authority; jet skis and recreational shellfishing are prohibited for public use. Over the years the club has organised sailing courses and regattas such as the Isla de las Cortes league/regatta, members' fishing contests and the annual Virgen del Carmen maritime procession. In 2025 the board welcomed the renewed tender for a municipal nautical building in Gallineras. In 2026 a new board was confirmed after regulated elections.
