Club Nàutic Fornells
Club Nàutic Fornells is a non-profit sports club on the Bay of Fornells in Menorca, based in the Ses Salines urbanisation. Founded on 17 March 1966, it runs a sailing school and manages 74 berths on the pontoon in front of the clubhouse. The fully renovated, wheelchair-accessible facilities from 2010 include changing rooms, showers, a classroom, storage for racers and members, and dinghy slip areas. The programme serves children, juniors and adults with sailing and windsurfing courses, a summer camp, a race team and many competitions. For more than five decades the club has shaped the sporting and educational link between the centre of the island and the sea.
History
Club Nàutic Fornells was founded on 17 March 1966 to manage a pontoon for members and seasonal visitors in Ses Salines. Initially without a clubhouse, Miguel Florit was the first president of an organisation that for five decades has strongly promoted sporting, training, competitive and leisure ties between the centre of the island and the sea. It is a non-profit sports club led by a president and a non-professional board renewed every four years by election. Between 2008 (new pontoon in Ses Salines) and 2010 (new building and clubhouse) the site was fully renovated and adapted for people with reduced mobility. Main activities are the sailing school and management of 74 berths on the pontoon opposite the clubhouse. At its 50th anniversary the club was in strong sporting and social shape: good race results, more than 6,000 users in 2017 and 268 members at the end of 2017. Sailors such as Billy Coll achieved success at national and international windsurfing events, including Spanish and European titles and world championship placings. The club regularly organises the windsurfing league, the Menorca windsurfing championship, the traditional Trofeu Memorial Gumersindo Riera and the Volta a s'Illa des Porros race.
