Club Natació Badalona
Club Natació Badalona is a long-established multi-sport club on the Mediterranean in Badalona near Barcelona, with strong focuses on swimming and sailing. The club sits on Carrer Eduard Maristany by the sea and offers club facilities, hangars for Patí de Vela and windsurfing, a sailing school and the public restaurant Sotavent. Sailors and water-sports athletes find sections for Patí de Vela, the sailing school, windsurf, rowing and triathlon, including youth and school programmes. Regular events such as the Gran Premi Badalona de Patí de Vela and the Challenge de Rem shape the sporting calendar. Founded in 1929, the club now has around 2,000 members, is the city’s second-largest association and is known in Badalona simply as “El Club”.
History
Club Natació Badalona was founded in 1929 by a group of friends who met at the Can Minobis barbershop on Carrer Sant Isidre; the first statutes bear the seal of the Barcelona provincial government dated 28 May 1930. The club anniversary is 22 June, the Saturday before Sant Joan. The first president was Joan Vilà i Güell, followed by Joan Solernou Enrich. Under Enric Alanyà Altés the club moved from its original site (today Banys El Pescador) to a larger site beside the old fish market. After the Civil War Juli Nyssen Vicente and from 1943 Lluís Mongé Ferrer led the club; Mongé designed with his brother Emili the first official Patí de Vela and helped drive the new clubhouse inaugurated in July 1966. Jaume Pons Collado was president from 1947 to 1959; mayor Santiago March backed the new building. Pere Parés Compte organised the 50th anniversary and the swimming pool; Salvador Duran Domínguez stabilised the finances. Artur Serra Roura (1987–1995) introduced the Gold Emblem for 50 years of membership. Under Miquel Estruch Traité (1995–2009) came a golden era of modernisation, the restaurant, a hangar in the old fish hall, a municipal monitoring contract (1998), swimming and Patí de Vela success, Kiko Igual’s 1999 windsurf world title, the rowing section and ten “Veles d’Or” from the Catalan sailing federation. In 2010 the club hosted the Patí de Vela European Championship despite the crisis; Esteve Ruiz Ribas (2010–2016) launched the sailing school in 2012. Since 2016 and again in 2026 Marc Estruch Vivan has been president. Today the club has around 2,000 members and is Badalona’s second-largest association.
